JUNIOR SEWING ACADEMY
Instructors: Esther Campbell
Denise Julian
It’s never too early to learn to sew. In our Junior Sewing Academy we
offer after-school sewing classes for girls and boys, ages 7 to 16. Many
of our students have gone on to study fashion design at the college
level.
Classes are held in fully-equipped classrooms in our store, and in the
community. Class sizes are limited to ensure individual guidance and
instruction for each student.
The big event of the year is our annual Junior Sewing Academy Fashion
Show held in May each year. Students get to show off their sewing and
creative skills to an audience of family and friends, and leave the
audience amazed by the skills and creativity of these young sewers.
There is usually only limited availability in this very popular program.
For registration enquiries, please contact the store @ 905-668-4821.

SPECIALTY CLASSES
STABILIZERS ??? INTERFACINGS ???
Instructor: Darla Hunt
Which one for embroidery, what weight and when, spray or no spray,
iron-on or leave in? So many choices and so many fabrics. Wouldn’t it be
nice to have a guide to help you solve these puzzles? Then join us in
our Stabilizer class.
This will be a hands-on class resulting in a booklet that you compile
with samples of the various choices of backings and fabrics. We will
cover everything from interfacing for strength and drape, as well as for
ease control with knits and silkies.
In the stabilizer area the mystery of embroidery backings will include
cottons of all weights, knits, silks, slinky, denim, wool and yes, even
sheers. When to use soluble and when to use tearaway or cut away is
often a challenge, but with the booklet you make you will have a
permanent record for reference. We invite you to add to your booklet
whenever you try a new technique or fabric. The industry is always
coming out with new choices. But as long as we know what to look for,
our sewing becomes easier.
MONDAY MAY 13 10:00 - 4:30
$40.00 Lunch included
