Classes fill quickly, so register early to avoid disappointment. Registration is effective with payment of class fee. Price does not include HST. Two-week notice is required for refund.
Make-up classes are provided if class is cancelled by us. Classes are hands-on and new Husqvarna Viking sewing machines, embroidery machines and sergers are provided at no charge. Fabrics for all classes are to be purchased at Whitby Fabrics Sewing Centre.
Samples of class projects are on display in the store.

DRESSMAKING Instructor: Darla Hunt These classes are designed for all sewers… from the new sewer who has only basic sewing skills, to the experienced sewer who wants to continue to expand her expertise. Students choose their own projects and our instructor guides them through each step until completion.

SEWING FOR “NEW & NEARLY-NEW” SEWERS

Whether you have never sewn before or you are returning to this incredible hobby, this class is for you. For the beginners, we will walk you through machine basics and sewing seams before tackling your first project. For students who have a little sewing experience, we'll work on those more difficult tasks such as button holes and zippers. We'll even teach you how to hem your favourite jeans.

JUNIOR SEWING ACADEMY

It’s never too early to learn to sew. In our Junior Sewing Academy we offer after-school sewing classes for girls and boys, ages 7 to 16. The classes are held in our store, and in the community, in fully-equipped classrooms. Class sizes are limited to ensure individual guidance and instruction for each student. The big event of the year is our annual Junior Sewing Academy Fashion Show where students get to show off their sewing and creative skills to family and friends.

DESIGNER DIAMOND DELUXE OWNERS CLASS

Owners of Diamond deLuxe machines are invited to join us in a series of classes designed to increase your knowledge of your beautiful embroidery machine.

MAKING LACE

Have you been drooling over the exquisite lace-edged bed linens in the shops? Would you love to make your own? Well, bring your love of sewing and embroidery to this class and we will show you how. We will be making our own lace with our embroidery machines and finishing up by attaching it to embroidered pillow slips.

PARISIAN WINDOWS QUILT

CATHEDRAL WINDOWS – WITH A TWIST
Instructor: Susan Rodesky

Quilters are well acquainted with the standard Cathedral Windows block. However, there are a few variations out there that provide a different twist to its usually conservative appearance. Join us in this class and learn how to create your own varied-sized templates for these unique “alternatives” as you incorporate completed blocks into a project of your choice (pillow, camera bag, tote, wall hanging).

REMOVE COLOUR THE SAFE WAY
Instructor: Susan Rodesky

Forget the bleach! We’ll introduce you to 2 brand new products, Decolourant and DeColourant Plus. Learn how easy it is to remove colour from natural fabrics and even replace it with another, all in one step! This unique product is far less toxic, damaging, smelly, and complicated. Stencilling, stamping, and free hand are only a few ways of incorporating this cool technique into your various projects. Add some stencilled embellishment at the bottom of a hem, interesting motifs on a silk scarf, or jazz up some of your batik fabrics with visual interest.

OWNERS’ CLUBS

FREE monthly club meetings are provided to everyone purchasing their embroidery machine, software or serger at Whitby Fabrics Sewing Centre. Others are welcome to participate for a $50.00 monthly fee. All students must pre-register for each club meeting in order to facilitate seating and planning arrangements.

Our clubs are designed to provide ongoing education to help you get the maximum benefit from your embroidery machine, serger or software; and to keep you informed of new products and new techniques.
 

EMBROIDERY CLUB

Meets on the fourth Friday of the month at 1:00, and the following Wednesday @ 6:30 p.m. Hands-on format. Bring your embroidery machine to Club

SOFTWARE CLUB

Meets on the second Friday of the month at 1:00, and the following Wednesday @ 6:30 p.m.
Demonstration format. Bring a laptop if you have one.

 

SERGER CLUB Meets on the third Friday of the month at 1:00 and 6:30. Hands-on format.  Bring your serger to Club.
