REGISTRATION

Classes fill quickly so register early to avoid disappointment. Registration is effective with payment of class fee. Full refund is provided if class is cancelled by us. Should you need to cancel your class, two weeks notice is required for refund of class fee or credit note.
Fabrics for all classes are to be purchased at Whitby Fabrics Sewing Centre. Classes are hands-on and new Husqvarna Viking sewing machines, embroidery machines and sergers are provided for your use at no charge.
Samples of class projects are on display in the store.

DRESSMAKING Instructor: Darla Hunt These classes are designed for all sewers… from the new sewer who has only basic sewing skills, to the experienced sewer who wants to continue to expand her expertise. BEGINNERS SEWING
Instructor: Elizabeth Darbyshire

This class is designed for beginners. It provides an opportunity for students with no previous sewing experience to learn the basics of sewing while working on a simple project…an A-line skirt, elastic waist pants or sleep pants.
The course content includes: sewing machine basics, how to read and follow pattern directions, proper layout of fabric and patterns, cutting techniques, commonly used stitches, pressing techniques and garment finishing techniques.

QUILTING

THROW QUILTS …. AN INTRODUCTION TO QUILTING

In this class you will create a beautiful Log Cabin throw quilt using piecing methods and simple quilting techniques. JAZZ IT UP WITH TEXTURE!

Texture is everywhere and the new fashion looks feature lots of texture accents. Come and use your Texture Hoop and your creativity to fashion a playful Tote Bag. Your bag can be made of Denim, Faux Suede or other sturdy weight fabrics. For your texture accents we have a selection of fabrics to choose from, as well as “texture kits”. You can also use cording made on your serger, heavier threads, ribbons and yarn. If you’re planning on taking the Jean Jacket Class this would be a great way to personalize your jacket for a true "Designer" look. Once you start texturizing you’ll be hooked like we are! PALAZZO PANTS
Instructor: Darla Hunt

Warmer days are ahead so why not sew up a pair of light casual Palazzo Pants. This style of pant features a fuller leg (flattering to all body types), invisible side or back zipper and a mini waistband with a touch of ease.
Palazzo pants are perfect for day or evening wear and can be sewn in a variety of fabrics including silk, poly blends, crepe, linen and soft cotton. They are wonderful with the new tunic tops or even a great T shirt. Come and size your pattern and sew up a storm.

YOGA MAT TOTE BAG Instructor: Elizabeth Darbyshire Create your one of a kind Yoga Mat Bag using gorgeous “Amy Butler” fabrics and you can go to class in style! This bag even has a large pocket on the outside to hold your yoga straps, or cell phone and keys while in class. You’ll be the fashion hit of your class! Free pattern is supplied for this class. CREATIVE PINTUCK VEST Instructor: Susan Rodesky Learn how to use that little foot with all the grooves that rarely comes out of your accessories box! You will quickly discover that pintucks are not exclusive to heirloom sewing as you use your pintuck foot in new & interesting ways. During class, you will construct unique “pintuck blocks” that will then be sewn together and used as your vest front (the back is plain). Intermediate sewing experience is suggested. TERRIFIC TANKS Tank tops that fit perfectly are a must! They double as “modesty underlays” when worn with semi-sheer tops, as well as cool and comfortable activewear garments on hot summer days. SERGER BEGINNINGS
A SEMINAR & TRUNK SHOW FOR EVERYONE
 

		We are all looking forward to having Cheryl Stranges, Serger Specialist, as our guest presenter for an exciting new seminar on serger techniques.This is a great opportunity for both novice and experienced serger owners to expand their knowledge and expertise, and for non-owners to discover the wonders of serging. Watch Cheryl bring your ideas to life as she demonstrates how easy it is to enhance your creativity with the use of accessory feet. And since we all love to see the finished product, Cheryl has a Trunk Show for  you filled with Fashion, Home Decorating and Quilting projects. Cheryl promises to keep things simple, but when she’s done you will know why she loves to use a serger! This is your opportunity to see first-hand the newest serger techniques that Cheryl has written about in her latest publications. FLIRTY SKIRTS Instructor: Darla Hunt These new “spring fling” skirts are just the thing for girls from 2 – 20. Whip some up for your daughter, grand-daughter…or yourself! BIAS SKIRTS Instructor: Darla Hunt   During the hot summer months, skirts are a comfy and cool wardrobe essential. Come and sew up one of the summer’s hottest looks…...a true bias skirt in a soft flirty sheer fabric. This class is done in 2 parts to allow “hanging time” before hemming. The first session will deal with drafting and construction of the bias skirt, and the second will deal with hemming. LEGGINGS...A FASHION ACCESSORY FOR ALL AGES

Don’t think of age as a factor when it comes to leggings. Anyone, from youngster to “mature” adult, can update their wardrobe and change their look with the addition of a pair of leggings.
With leggings from our cotton spandex fabrics, a simple knit dress becomes more chic, flirty skirts take on a new look and long tunic tops become even more versatile.

Tunics are everywhere! The longer-length straight style is flattering and comfortable to wear, as is the loose classic fit. Now’s the time to get a head start and sew up a classic tunic for the coming season. Used as a cover up, or as a top with pants or capris, the versatile tunic takes you anywhere in style. Embellish it with embroidery or heirloom-style trim and your spring and summer wardrobe will get a fashion boost!

OWNERS’ CLUBS

FREE monthly club meetings are provided for anyone who has purchased their embroidery machine, software or serger at Whitby Fabrics Sewing Centre. Others are welcome to participate for a $50.00 monthly fee. All students must pre-register for each club meeting in order to facilitate seating and planning arrangements.

These clubs are designed to provide ongoing education to help you get the maximum benefit from your embroidery machine, serger or software; and to keep you informed of new products and new techniques.

EMBROIDERY CLUB

Meets on the fourth Friday of the month  at 1:00 and 6:30. Hands-on format. Bring your embroidery machine to Club The picture is a sample of a  project for the embroidery club. You, of course, will go home with your free design.

SOFTWARE CLUB

Meets on the second Friday of the month at 1:00 and 6:30.
Bring along your laptop

SERGER CLUB

Meets on the third Friday of the month at 1:00 and 6:30.   Hands-on format. Bring your serger to Club.
